Hardscape — rock and wood — forms the skeleton of an aquascape. Get it right and planting becomes easy.

Choosing materials

Popular rocks include Seiryu, Dragon stone and lava rock; popular woods include spider wood, manzanita and Malaysian driftwood. Stick to one material type for cohesion, create a focal point, and build depth with foreground-to-background sizing.
