Care Guide

Bronze corydoras are among the best community catfish: peaceful, active and hardy. Keep them in groups of 6 or more over soft sand, which protects their delicate barbels.

They are not sole 'cleaners' โ€” feed sinking pellets and wafers to ensure they get enough food. A secure school will shoal happily across the bottom and even rest together.

Behaviour

Social shoaling catfish that sift sand and dart to the surface for air.

Compatibility

Perfect peaceful bottom-dweller for community tanks with tetras, rasboras and gouramis.

Breeding

T-position spawner; eggs are deposited on glass and plants after cool water changes trigger spawning.

Disease Risks

Barbel erosion on sharp substrate, ich, red blotch disease. See our fish disease database for treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many corydoras should I keep?
At least 6. Corydoras are shoaling fish and become stressed and inactive when kept alone or in pairs.
Do corydoras need sand?
Smooth sand is ideal as it protects their barbels and lets them sift naturally. Avoid sharp gravel.
